Whats is Gel coat?
Gel coat is a high-grade in-mold surface finishing process that provides FRP composite parts with outstanding appearance in color, gloss, and transparency, while also delivering UV and water resistance. Gel coats are typically applied to polished molds pre-treated with a release agent, enabling a smooth, durable, and well-protected surface layer. A specialized group, known as surface coatings, can also be applied to existing parts after molding, functioning as post-mold finishing layers when required.
Whats is Topcoat?
Topcoats are final-stage protective coating systems applied over primers or fillers. They are formulated to ensure strong adhesion to the underlying layers, achieve the desired finish—such as color, gloss, and surface structure—and provide enhanced environmental and weather protection. In industrial applications, topcoats also contribute to performance requirements including surface sealing, corrosion resistance, and long-term coating stability, without reliance on a mold environment.
